As I watch these united states vote in this major election, there are a gazillion things running through my head. I’m thinking about Obama up in the polls, the death of his Grandma, the fact that I can’t vote as a non-citizen, why do I even care even though I don’t have a say.

I have been blogging and twittering and posting to Facebook like a rabid pundit. I go to CNN and the Huffington Post waaay too often. I have followed every little detail and update. It wasn’t until this very morning though that one of the most insightful little tit-bits ran across my eyes. I was able to watch it live.

https://i2.wp.com/images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/47202/thumbs/s-EXPORT-large.jpgAs Dennis Hopper related that short anecdote about Obama. I thought of many things. The most important though occured to me as I started to write this post. Why do I care about this election and I can’t vote. The story that he relates about him in the elevator with Barack was a penetrating insight into the person that Barack seems to be. If he truly is this way it shows why people have been fired up and ready to go for him at a moments call. Why his color is not a scar, he just happens to be black (or half black if you wanna split hairs). Granted, lets say he is just putting on, lets say he is disengenous. I strongly doubt that is the case though.

But back to the main question, why do I care, because Barack is not a candidate that one simply votes for. He is an idea that the world has been hoping for. The idea that a politician can be decent, thoughtful, sincere and maybe even honest.

If he truly is all these things, it will give people that truly want to help thier countries and communities the vigor, the fire and the passion to run for public office because they can say, have you heard of Obama, do you know of Barack. He is not like the rest. He will be the measure, the new standard by which every single politician will be judged, even IF he does not win.

A transformational figure he truly is. if Barack was merely just another mawgah (slim) basketball-playing, smooth talking politician from Chicago that just happened to have a white mom and a black Dad, today’s election would be between McCain and Hillary. No, Barack is an idea. He is a fruit of the global Zeitgist that refuses to be unheard anymore.

May God bless America, and everywhere else.

Obama Wins! … Ad Age’s Marketer of the Year – Advertising Age – MOY 2008

Mr. Obama won the vote of hundreds of marketers, agency heads and marketing-services vendors gathered here at the Association of National Advertisers' annual conference.Just weeks before he demonstrates whether his campaign’s blend of grass-roots appeal and big media-budget know-how has converted the American electorate, Sen. Barack Obama has shown he’s already won over the nation’s brand builders. He’s been named Advertising Age’s marketer of the year for 2008.

It was with great pride that I listened to a son of the soil of my birth (one generation removed), speak on Meet the Press today. After 9/11, the US government sought to make the case to go to war at the U.N. It was on this former general’s eloquence, his word and apparent trustworthiness that the case for war was carried to the world.

Seven years later, Colin Powell redeems that act

A very good article from AdAge on analyzing audience engagement and loyalty metrics for the presidential campaign.

Just like brands and media, engagement and loyalty metrics can be used to measure presidential candidates. The technique is more accurate than traditional polling because it measures what voters think — as opposed to what they say they think. Our research shows that there are four drivers that define the “Ideal President” and they are:

Action: Does the candidate have a comprehensive, realistic, well-considered plan for solving the problems facing the country?

Compassion: Does the candidate care about all the people? (A nod and a note to one of our alert readers: Attributes and values approximating liking, bonding to and seeing the candidate as being “someone like me” and “for me” resides in this driver along with concern for people.)

Perception: Does the candidate have a deep understanding of the problems facing the county?

Resolve: Does the candidate have the strength and leadership to guide the country?

the rest is here…

Anger vs. Steadiness in the Crisis – TIME

Obama was far more forceful on the page than he was on the screen.

In 2008, everybody and their momma is a pundit, so why not lil ol’ crazy Jamaican me 🙂

Why does Obama’s fund raising this last month means so much. Simple. Because people are voting with their pocketbook. Yes he had a bump from the nomination. That I am sure explained why half a million new people gave him money for the first time. Sure the argument maybe, yeah they’ll send him money but behind those curtains in November, what will America really do. Well look at it this way, this is the greatest transfer of wealth to a black man in the history of this country. This is not from a corporation like Sony to Will Smith. We are talking about money going from people struggling to buy gas and feed thier families to BarackObama.com

Regardless of how anyone feels about Barack Hussein Obama, he has struck a chord, he has tapped a vein, deep in America’s collective conscience and his campaign is mining it for all it’s worth.
